Product, Packaging, Graphic and Web Designer

We are a small team of creative people who manage 2 great brands from our office/warehouse in Leith, Edinburgh. We’re not an average business and we don’t want to be. We’re young, vibrant, creative and fun.

We’re looking for a new person to join our team in a design role. The role will be a varied design role and you'll be responsible for designing and speccing new products, product labelling, packaging as well as graphics for our website and even the websites themselves.

Duties of Role

Product design

  • Work with marketing to come up with product design concept/range based around the marketing theme

  • Work with Buying to design product ranges for both brands

    • Research design trends

    • Decide on colour palette

    • Create a range of unique designs

    • Get feedback and adapt to develop final range

  • Ensure designs works for product specifications and production materials

  • Design artwork and specifications for product labelling

  • Ensure designs are on brand and on trend

  • Ensure designs take into account production costs

  • Create product spec files which are clear and accurate to send to supplier for production

Packaging design

  • Come up with new and interesting packaging design concepts

  • Ensure design is appropriate for function and enhances the customer experience

  • Work with warehouse and buying to create packaging which protects the product while also keeping shipping costs as low as possible

  • Look for ways which packaging designs can be adapted or enhanced to be more flexible and cost effective

  • Create product spec files which are clear and accurate to send to supplier for production

Marketing Design

  • Work with marketing to come up with engaging and interesting marketing design ideas

  • Use marketing brief to create design ideas

  • Ensure designs achieve marketing brief as best possible

  • Ensure designs are as cost effective as possible

  • Ensure designs are on brand and consistent across all marketing material

  • Design trade show stalls along with marketing materials that allow the brand to stand out against the rest


  • Illustrate from concept, ensuring illustration keeps in line with the branding guidelines for both companies

  • Able to apply illustration to different materials in interesting and new ways

  • Ensure finish production of illustration is at brand standard

Web Design

  • Come up with website design concepts to enhance customer user experience

  • Create mockups as required which clearly convey changes required with annotations/dimensions as required

  • Design website graphics

  • Manage web developers to oversee implementation of the designs

  • Ensure website reflects the brands clearly and consistently

  • Research new and interesting web site design concepts and functionality

  • Ensure design in most appropriate for the target market and product area


Skill, Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years Graphic Design experience

  • A portfolio of previous design work that reflects ability to adapt to a specific brand personality

  • A qualification in Graphic Design – HND or degree level

  • Proficient in Adobe CC specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat

  • Able to Illustrate and apply illustration to various materials

  • Experience designing logos with accompanying branding guidelines

  • Experience and knowledge in blanket design and weaving and wool dying process

  • Experience and knowledge in designing traditional Scottish Highland Dress clothing

  • Experience and knowledge in designing traditional Scottish Highland Dress accessories including but not limited to sporrans, sgian dubhs, kilt pins, plaid brooches, hose, flashes

  • Experience and knowledge in designing tartans

  • Experience and knowledge in designing stalls and marketing materials for trade shows and fairs

  • Experience and knowledge in designing product packaging from inners to outers

  • A good commercial awareness as well as an understanding of emerging trends

  • Excellent eye for detail with strong typography and layout skills

  • Computer literate in MS Office: Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Experience and knowledge in UX and UI design

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, managing projects in line with changing business priorities

  • Experience in working across two different brands/companies simultaneously

  • Good team work and willingness to help others

Hours: Mon-Fri, 9:00-5:30
Salary: £25,000 - £35,000
